Russia: EFJ condemns using violence versus journalists on Saturday

The Russian Journalists’and Media Workers’Union(JMWU)and the Russian Union of Journalists(RUJ)recorded on 23 January at least 52 situations of detention and violence against reporters while covering demonstrations on behalf of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny, in Russia. The European Federation of Reporters (EFJ)condemns using violence against journalists. On Saturday, throughout Russia, 10s of hundreds of individuals resisted a heavy authorities presence to sign up with some of the biggest rallies against President Vladimir Putin in years.
